UP Bead Guild Closes its Doors

Maybe it's because people are too busy, or maybe it's because times are tough, but for whatever reason, the Bead Guild is no longer meeting on the Second Tuesday of every month at the Peter White Library.  We were not able to find new officers to run the guild and decided to not collect dues for 2011.  We will no longer have a P.O. Box as of May.

We still have a small group that has decided to meet whenever it is convenient at their homes.  If you would like to join or create a beading group of your own with our help, please email us or look us up on Facebook.

Keep Beading.

4th Annual and possibly the last UP Bead Guild Jewelry Show

The Bead Guild will be hosting another jewelry show at the First United Methodist Church on the corner of Front and Ridge in Marquette on November 13, 2010.  There is more than just jewelry this year.  Our members have been very busy making beaded pens, candle holders, pins, outdoor concrete leaves, and purses.

The Bead Guild will be dissolving after the first of the year, so this may be the last time to take advantage of a great, diverse selection of beaded creations.  Make your calendars and join us from 9 to 3.

March 9th Beading Meeting

We accomplished a lot last night. The bead guild voted to sponsor Suzanne S. to take a resin class at this year's Bead and Button Show in Milwaukee. Stay tuned after June to see what day Suzanne will come and demonstrate what she learned.

Four of our members also demonstrated how to make the Hippie Bracelet, how to use a loom, how to bend wire to make earrings and how to braid on a Kumihimo board.

Those that attended also voted on whether or not we should have a Mother's Day Sale at L'Attitudes again this year. The majority voted yes, so we will book the room for Friday, April 23rd. Start gathering your jewelry. Your attendance is not necessary to participate, although you must be a member in good standing and arrange for someone to take charge of your things after the sale. The Bead Guild cannot be responsible for lost items if you did not make arrangements ahead of time.

Dorilla bought in 3 finished quilt blocks to add to the quilt block that we will be donating to the Danielle Beverly Cancer Survivor Event in October. Dorilla got her inspiration from a piece of fabric that had leaf designs on it and then created her own peyote pattern. Great job Dorilla.
As you finish your quilt piece, give them to Diana who will sew them all together and place them in a shadow box.

Cathy also announced that the necklace, bracelet, and earrings that the group worked on last month was turned in to the Women's Center/Harbor House for their annual fundraiser auction.
Next month, bring your jewelry to check in for the Mother's Day Show.

2nd Annual U.P Bead Guild Holiday Sale

Get all of your jewelry that you've been working on all year long ready because we are having another Jewelry Sale on November 14th. It will be held the same weekend as the Library holds their Holiday sale, just like last year. We had a huge success last year being on our own at the Methodist Church.

Bring all of your pieces to the October meeting if you would like help marking them for sale. Otherwise, we will have one more meeting in November before the sale, but that meeting will be the deadline to check in your items. Barbara will be emailing the item check-in sheets soon. You can email her at upbeadguild@yahoo.com if you would like them sooner.

Beading Camp a Success

The few that showed up at Pat Maki's camp enjoyed a relaxing day beading, sharing stories, and eating great food. The day just wasn't long enough and we were having such a good time. Thank you Pat for sharing your place with us.
